General Musing....

I turned 30 on Sunday. No big deal really. Pretty much all my friends turned 30 before me, so I am still a youngun'. I love having a late birthday in that respect...pretty much all my besties will always be older than me, if only by six weeks or so. 30 doesn't feel much different, not that I expected it to. Although I will say this - I should have "milestone" birthdays more often. I totally made out like a bandit present-wise. Shallow and materialistic? Why yes please! I scored an adorable red purse from my parents, along with a killer cool necklace, Rachel Ray DVD and some cold hard cash. Plus they treated to dinner at the awesomest German restaruant. What, awesomest isn't a word? Tough. Still riding the birthday high here! My one sis gave me some more cold hard cash and from the other I got cute socks and a Kohl's gift certificate. I totally did it up today shopping at Kohl's. Two pairs of jeans, a sweater and three tops! Woohoo! And then Matt, well he really outdid himself. He wasn't supposed to get me anything since I had already purchased a couple things and said to just consider them my birthday present (a sweatshirt to replace the GAP sweatshirt I have had since freshman year in high school (do the math) an is so holey I can't really wear it out in public and a new bedspread.) But the man doesn't listen and he bought me the most beautiful three stone aquamarine ring. Aquamarine is Chickie's birth stone. It is absolutely gorgeous, but I need it sized because I have super chubby fingers.

Also of note, there really are kind people in this world. Two examples were demonstrated in one ordinary trip to Kohl's today. First, while perusing the killer sales, a woman started calling out "ma'am, ma'am." She was probably about 60 or so and her legs were giving out and she was about to fall. No fewer than three women (myself included) dropped our items and rushed to her side. We all stood and held her up while someone else went to get a chair and some help. There ended up being quite a few people helping this poor woman out and she was so grateful. It just goes to show people are kind, even if you don't hear about the good ones as often as you should. And then when we were checking out, a woman came over with a stuffed animal in her hand. She said she had bought it for the Kohl's charity but didn't have anyone to give it to and asked if she could give it to Lily. So sweet. And Lily hasn't put the thing down!

And speaking of Lily - Lord help me! Everything is "NO!" right now. I have hardly heard her utter anything else in the past 72 hours. I believe we may be entering into the "terrible twos" a little early. If you don't hear from me for a while, I am probably in the nut house!

Singing Some Christmas Carols

A Few More

I thought of a couple more Chickie-isms:
- She is totally addicted to her blankie and pacifier, which bugs the heck out of me. Not so much the blankie, but I hate the paci. She perpetually has raw chapped spots around her mouth from the stupid thing. I try to take them away and give them to her only at bedtime, which usually backfires because she will grab them out of her crib. If I am really on my game, I will hide them under her blanket. She will realize she doesn't have them and start walking around the house calling out "blankie, are you? blankie, are you?" So stinkin' cute! This morning when she couldn't find her blankie, she picked up my yoga mat as a substitute.
- Chickie loves to jump. But she doesn't really get off the ground. One foot does, the other not so much. She will jump around screaming "jump! jump!"
- Sometimes when I pick her up or am playing on the floor with her she will give me a hug, lay her head on my shoulder, pat my back and say "oh mummy!" I am telling ya, I am helpless against her powers.
- When Daddy reads her stories at night, sometimes she will fake sleep. So cute! I love watching my two loves together!
- She is very good with her colors now and tells me what color diaper she wants at diaper changes.
- And speaking of diaper changes, when I am spraying off an icky diaper, she will stand in the doorway of the bathroom and wave and say "bye-bye poo poo."

Okay, that's it for now...

This One!

This one...she has my heart. And my sanity. I haven't being doing what I set out to do with this blog lately. I intended to chronicle every little thing Chickie did, but, um, toddlers do A LOT!!! I thought I would compose a random list of recent Chickie-isms:

- Everything is "look mommy _______". As in "look mommy, cheerios!" "look mommy, shoes" "look mommy, lights (whenever we are driving when it is dark, she points out the houses decorated" "look mommy, knowing (snowing)!" The last two are my personal favorites.
- We have a lot of geese in our area. When they are flying overhead and making a racket (which I actually don't mind), Chickie will cock her head to the side and listen and yell "Geese!"
- Chickie loves to dance. Any time there is music she starts shaking her arms and bouncing. Adorable!
- She is a big fan of bringing me her water cup and telling me it is empty. It almost never is. When it is actually empty she usually comes up to me and says "a more water pease." Any time she wants more of something, it is always "a more."
- She has a froggy humidifier in her room. When it is on, and heaven forbid we try to put her to bed without turning it on, froggy is working. "Look mommy, fwoggy working!"
- If I scold her for something, she turns those big blues on me and reaches her arms up, saying "hugs!"
- She has quickly learned that while I may not always come into her room when I put her to bed and she won't go to sleep, if I hear her little voice requesting water, I will come and bring her a drink. I tell ya, she has me (well, us!) wrapped around her adorable little finger!
- When she wants to, Chickie can count to seven. Well, actually nine, but she skips eight. And then adds thirteen to the end. And she is pretty good at her ABCs, though she misses a few letters. She usually replaces those with numbers.
- She can sing the "Wonder Pets" song. She definitely watches too much TV. But see the above, she is smart so I am kinda okay with it...but I wish she watched less, but sometimes I need to get something done without her right next to me (um, shower anyone!)
- When asked, she will tell you what any animal says.
- Sometimes she gets up really early, and there is no way I am getting up that early (think, 5ish), so I go into her room and say "Shh, still night night time." Now when I walk into her room she will put her finger to her lips and say "shhh! sleeping" and lay back down and usually sleep for a while more.
- When we tuck her in at night, she always says "night night luv you." Melts my heart!
- And no matter how trying a day it has been and no matter how much I have been looking forward to bed time, I always miss the little stinker once she is down!

She has been so much fun lately. She is really playing with her toys now, which is cute. Her favorite right now is the Baby Jesus from this craft we did at MOPS - nativity blocks. She carries Baby Jesus around and kisses him good night.

I will try to be better about updating. There will probably be at least another installment of this post because I am most definitely forgetting things. Like my coffee...Chickie is very respectful of my coffee. When she sees me with a mug, she says "Mommy's coffee." She knows not to mess with mommmy when she is getting her coffee!
